If you’ve been trying to start or build your business, but it feels like you’re going around in circles, taking two steps forward only to then move three back, you’re not alone.
It’s a problem ALL aspiring entrepreneurs suffer from, and it is the biggest killer of our business dreams.
I call this loop ‘The Transformation Trap’. We're desperately trying to create something new in our life but we can’t escape from the endless cycle of doubt, fear and overwhelm that holds us back.
A while back, I did a live training on The Transformation Trap. Below is a 7-minute segment that explains how this trap functions and keeps us stuck.
Did the explanation in the video sound familiar?
Most people who have watched it tell me they are stuck in this exact loop and that it is stopping them from moving forward.
The Two Main Reasons We Get Stuck
Reason 1: INTERNAL Conflict
When we find ourselves stuck in this way, we usually try to escape it by consuming more information.
But I suspect you’re already aware that lack of information isn’t the problem. The truth is, the amount of information we have access to is only making the problem worse.
The problem we face is not a lack of information; the problem is acting on the information we already have.
Consuming more articles of the latest hacks and tactics or buying a piece of cool software is not going to get you out of that cycle of overwhelm and procrastination, it’s just going to help keep you there.
We don't become stuck in this trap because of a lack of intellectual knowledge.
If I asked you for 3 ways to make money, lose weight, or be a better partner/parent (goals we all share), I'm confident you’d have some tips and tricks to share with me that would be useful.
We all have access to the external knowledge, what we don’t have is the ability to make it functioning and internal in our life.
That is because of a conflict.
A conflict between the person we are today, and the person we need to become to reach our goals.
This conflict takes place daily in our lives across all areas. We know what we want/need to do, but we take actions that are in direct opposition to our intentions.
We want to build our business, but we spend hours surfing the web and getting nothing done. We want to lose weight but keep reaching for cake. We want to save money, but we can’t resist that bargain in the shop window.
So What Is The Source Of This Conflict?
It’s our beliefs.
For years we've been told that to the way to break free of the transformation trap is to think positive, hustle, grind and use all the willpower we can muster.
You already know that’s not an effective strategy.
Sure, it can produce short term gains but eventually, you burn out, or other areas of life begin to suffer. We see it all the time.
It’s not what we think that matters so much, but the beliefs that lie behind our thoughts.
How many times have you been telling someone about a problem you are facing and upon hearing their advice you remark, “yes, I already know that!”
If we 'already know' what we need to do, why are we not acting on it?
Why is the very information that could help us rejected by our brain and dismissed by our mind?
The answer is a simple one. The information we are receiving is in direct conflict with a belief we hold. When this happens, at a sub-conscious level we reject it.
Take a look at this video I made for some clients where I explain this problem and what needs to happen to fix it.
Beliefs that you hold, ones that you are most likely unaware of around subjects such as money, success, work, business and freedom are preventing you from taking action.
We didn’t consciously choose our beliefs, they are a product of our environment and experiences, but we can consciously change them.
Here’s a snippet of another video where I talk about this, and how through understanding our beliefs better, we can adopt a new perspective that allows us to take action.
The world of neuroscience has come a long way over the past 10 years. We now have a far greater understanding of how our brain functions.
The advancements in neuroscience have proved that we needn't be stuck with old patterns of belief and behaviour. We have the power to change them via a process called neuroplasticity.
Using processes that have been designed to compliment how our brain functions, we can identify current beliefs that hold us back, modify them to suit our needs, and then activate them in our life.
This process allows us to 'release the brakes' and start taking action on what we know at an intellectual level, but up until now, we've not been able to implement.
Reason 2: LACK OF Clarity
What do you want in life?
What do you want in business?
Why do you want those things?
How do you get them?
Questions you’ve probably asked yourself MANY times, but if you're like most people, you’ve struggled to find answers that feel right for you.
This struggle occurs because we can only answer the questions through the filter of our current belief structure.
So when you consider what it is you want, often the answers we give are based on what we believe is 'right' and in line with our beliefs, not necessarily what we want.
It is this that leads to the procrastination and conflict that we've already discussed.
Here’s another video snippet that explains this:
Once you have removed the internal belief conflicts and have clarity on what you want your business and life to look like, what’s next?
I'm sure you can guess that it is taking action. However, the secret is to take action in a different way from how we were taught in the past.
(I’m sure you see a theme here…most of how we’ve been told to do things is wrong. An example of society level beliefs in action that are keeping us stuck)
Set SMART goals. That’s what we are told to do.
Specific. Measurable. Achievable. Realistic. Targets.
Makes sense, or does it?
Well, the quickest way to answer that question would be to ask yourself how effective that approach has been in reaching YOUR goals.
It’s probably worked some of the time, but overall, what impact has your knowledge of ‘smart goals’ had on your life?
Probably a limited impact at best.
When I ditched goals and replaced them with processes and systems, everything changed for me.
For example, I had a goal to lose weight for a very long time, but setting a 'smart' goal didn't help me achieve my objective.
However, when I created a system for my health, I lost over 35Ibs in three months without focusing on weight loss at all.
That’s the power of systems; you don’t need to think about it, you just need to follow the process.
One of the problems with goals is that they can add to the anxiety and stress we are already experiencing.
Think about it...
If I set myself a SMART weight goal, how happy and relaxed do you think I would be until I reached it?
I’d be on the scales every day, and my focus would be on the ground I still needed to cover.
It would be on my mind all the time, and I wouldn’t be able to rest until I reached the goal.
Replacing a goal with a system that is easy to maintain and I enjoy reduces the stress and puts me in a position of “winning” every day.
The results the system creates makes me feel good and as a by-product, increases my performance in other areas too.
I’m not saying goals have no place. They are useful as a tool for planning your progress, BUT...it is systems that allow you to MAKE progress.
A system and a commitment to follow the processes of that system will always beat goals over the long term.
Process leads to progress leads to success.
Most aspiring entrepreneurs start each day wondering what they need to do in their business. We all know where that leads...
Hours spent checking emails, surfing and more procrastination.
Once we remove the internal conflicts, gain clarity on what we want and create systems to deliver results, then we can finally be free of the procrastination and doubt that holds us back.
If you would like to have a clear, detailed plan to reach a specific outcome in your business over the next 90 days and at the same time, rewire some of the beliefs holding you back, then read on because I have a rare and exciting opportunity for you.
Much of my time is spent researching and testing methods to achieve faster results for myself and my clients.
I’m continually refining and stripping back my processes to get to the core elements that make the most significant difference.
The core elements that entrepreneurs who are struggling to make progress need to address are:
1. Their current belief structures. These create automatic habits and behaviours that move them away from their desired outcomes, not closer to them.
2. Lack of clarity about what they are trying to achieve and why.
3. Lack of access to a proven process that delivers results and outcomes.
In short - a clear purpose, path and plan, free from the restrictions of conflicting beliefs.
The majority of my clients work with me for long periods, but I’m looking to test an accelerated, intensive process that addresses these three core elements with a handful of people.
It’s all about getting the job done in the fastest time possible so that you can kickstart the next phase of your business development.
The whole process will take less than a week, and we will be working together on a 1-1 basis.
Here is a brief outline of the 3 phase process
I’ll walk you through a process to rewire some core beliefs that are relative to money, business and success. A process based on neuroscience and how our brains function, not the positive psychology approach we’ve all had pushed down our throats for the last 30 years.
Next, we’ll start working on creating a clear vision and path, in particular, the financial aspect of your life/business. I’ll be facilitating you through a process that will deliver three sets of figures for us to work with during phase 3.
We work together via video conference for either a morning or afternoon. In that session, we will create a clear model to deliver your income targets and then we’ll roll up our sleeves and get to work on your 90-day plan.
I’ll take you through my ‘domino’ system, and by the time we are finished, you’ll know precisely what needs to be done each day to reach your goal.
If so, here are three conditions for participation in this case study
1. You must have a clear business idea - if you don’t already have a business or you don’t know what business you want to start, this isn’t for you.
It’s ok if your business hasn’t started yet or it’s very early days. As long as you know what it is you want to provide and to who, it’s all good.
2. You must be willing to honour my two ‘golden commitments’ which are: commitment to the truth & commitment to the work. Basically, hold nothing back and do what is asked of you so we can get the job done.
3. You must agree to complete a case study form/questionnaire at the end of our live session.
That’s it! Simple. 🙂
Lastly, there will, of course, be an investment required for us to work together, HOWEVER….as this is a case study, it will be significantly less than my usual consultancy fees for 1-1 work of this kind (around 75% less!)
I’m only looking for a handful of people for this case study so if you’d like to be one of them, contact me via email using the button below and let me know you're interested.
